This is a One-Of-A-Kind Dwarf Mini Jade
This is what's called Mame size. It's a beautiful and Mature Jade meticulously pruned by Glen Lord.
Dwarf Mini Jade, and scientifically known as the Portulacaria Afra, is a favorite among elephants when dinner time rolls around.
It's commonly known as the "Elephant Bush" and is a popular choice for bonsai enthusiasts. This succulent shrub, native to South Africa, features small, round, green leaves that resemble the appearance of a miniature jade plant.
The trunk of the Portulacaria afra bonsai is often thick and sturdy, with a distinctive reddish-brown bark that adds visual interest. The branches are well-suited for shaping and wiring, allowing for the creation of intricate and artistic designs. The plant is known for its ability to develop a thick, gnarled appearance over time, adding character to the bonsai.
One of the remarkable features of the Portulacaria afra is its ability to store water in its leaves, making it well-suited to arid conditions. This characteristic contributes to its resilience as a bonsai, as it can withstand periods of drought and recover well with proper care.
The Jade has been nicknamed “The Elephant Plant” due to its symbiotic relationship with the world’s largest land mammal. As the elephants strip the leaves and cause general destruction during feeding frenzies, the fallen broken branches of the Jade propagate and within a few weeks the fleshy emerald leaves have grown back for more.
As you can see from the pictures, the foliage is “tight” on these trees from a lot of pruning.
This Jade Bonsai couldn’t be more stunning or simpler to maintain.
