About The Potter:
I have been working with clay for 50 years and feel I have finally learned enough to make a proper bonsai pot. After receiving an M.F.A. from RISD in 1980, I became a full time ceramic artist, creating pottery, sculpture and commissions in a variety of firing techniques. My kiln and studio are located in Smithfield, RI. Wood firing is the perfect technique for making bonsai pots. It is a collaboration of water, air, fire and clay. The dance of the flame travels through and around the pots within the kiln. This determines flashing, changes to the color of the glaze and highlights the textures. As my own knowledge about trees grows I hope my pots will also mature. My love of trees brought me to Bonsai and I am now learning how to maintain a collection of my own.
