Trace Element FRIT and Its Use in Bonsai

Spring and summer are upon us and our dormant bonsai trees have emerged from their winter sleep. Now your bonsai and prebonsai are in full growth and now we all face certain decisions that need to be made concerning our bonsai. The question has often been posed concerning the need for trace elements and bonsai and for many it is a question surrounded in a bit of mystery and some confusion. It doesn't and shouldn't be. In a nut shell the short answer is ALL plants need and especially bonsai, both deciduous and tropical need and require trace elements to maintain optimum healthy growth.

While all organic matter contains various levels of trace elements, whether this organic matter is in the form of soil or fertilizer, these levels are not sufficient for long term growth and bonsai soil in particular does not even come close to supplying the vital trace elements that are needed. Products such Trace Element FRIT fill this needed void.

Frit contains OVER 28 vital trace elements and minerals on the major and minor scale that are essential to the health of your bonsai trees and houseplants. Frit is a dual acting fast and slow release compound that releases these major trace elements over a 12 month period. A staggering 30% of the compound is soluble in the FIRST hour after application to the soil. Meaning simply your bonsai will get a near instant infusion of needed trace elements. This initial release insures a near INSTANT remedy for any trace element inadequacy, while the remaining 70% of the compound is released in an even and slow applied rate for the remaining of the year. To be clear what frit is not.... Frit is not a fertilizer per se or a replacement for fertilizer. Rather FRIT is a product that is used to compliment the fertilizer that you use by providing the vital trace elements for your trees that are not available or not available is the needed amounts. Think of frit as a complex muti-vitamin for bonsai in a easy to use once a year application.

All bonsai regardless of species can benefit from a yearly application of FRIT. All the better the directions for use are easy! The way kit should be! Simply mix FRIT with your soil prior to potting, or sprinkle it on the surface at the rate of 1 tablespoon for a 6 inch pot for existing bonsai. THAT IS IT!!! It is very simple and again Frit only needs to be used once per year. While there really isn't any danger of using more than what the direction call for, there isn't a need for doing so. For those who like to make their own bonsai soil incorporate FRIT into your bonsai mix at 1/3 to 1/2 pound per 5 (five) gallons of soil.
