Bonsai Soil Trace Elements
A simple mineral amendment to help replenish trace elements in bonsai soil.
Bonsai Soil Trace Elements are used to add important minerals back into bonsai soil, especially modern bonsai mixes made from ingredients like akadama, pumice, lava, and other well-draining inorganic components.
If you are new to bonsai, think of this as a soil supplement, not a fertilizer. Your tree still needs a regular fertilizer program for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and overall feeding. Trace Elements are used to support the soil environment by adding small amounts of minerals that may be missing or depleted over time.
Why Use Trace Elements for Bonsai?
Bonsai trees live in small pots with a limited amount of soil. Over time, watering, repotting, and regular fertilizing can leave the soil lacking in certain trace minerals. This product helps remineralize the soil so your bonsai has access to a broader range of elements beyond standard fertilizer.
It is especially useful when repotting into fresh bonsai soil, where the mix is designed for drainage and root health but may not naturally contain a wide range of trace minerals.
Best For
- All bonsai species, including tropical, deciduous, flowering, and conifer bonsai
- Repotting season, when mixing fresh bonsai soil
- Inorganic bonsai soil mixes such as akadama, pumice, lava, and similar blends
- Long-term potted trees where the soil may become depleted over time
- Growers who want a more complete soil amendment program alongside regular fertilizer
Do You Need This Product?
You may want to use Bonsai Soil Trace Elements if you are repotting bonsai, using mostly inorganic bonsai soil, or want to add a simple yearly mineral supplement to your care routine.
You probably do not need to overthink this product. It is not a rescue treatment, and it is not meant to fix poor watering, bad soil, weak light, or lack of fertilizer. It is a small addition to a good bonsai care program.
Is This a Fertilizer?
No. Bonsai Soil Trace Elements are not a replacement for fertilizer.
Fertilizer provides the main nutrients your bonsai needs for growth. Trace Elements provide supplemental minerals that help round out your soil and support overall plant health. For best results, use this product along with a regular bonsai fertilizer such as BioGold, Bonsai Thrive, or another appropriate fertilizer for your tree.
How to Use
During repotting: Mix approximately 1 tablespoon into each 2-quart bag of bonsai soil before potting.
For existing bonsai: Sprinkle approximately 1 tablespoon on the soil surface for a 6-inch pot, then water normally.
Use sparingly. More is not necessarily better.
When to Apply
- Use during repotting season when preparing fresh soil
- Apply once per year as a light soil amendment for established bonsai
- Water thoroughly after applying
