Compact Flowering Natal Plum Bonsai Tree DIY Kit
This kit is meant to feel like opening a bonsai “project box” - everything you need to build your own Natal Plum bonsai setup, step-by-step, right out of the box.
The Natal Plum (Carissa) is a favorite for a reason: it’s a tough tropical with glossy leaves, rewarding growth, and the potential for beautiful, fragrant white flowers (and sometimes small fruit) when it’s happy. If you want a bonsai that feels alive and interactive, this is a fun one.
Who This Kit Is Good For
- Beginners who want a complete, guided “first bonsai build” experience
- Gift buyers who want something more meaningful than a houseplant
- Hands-on hobbyists who want to prune, wire, and repot, not just water
- Anyone who wants a compact flowering tropical for a bright window, sunroom, or grow light
What’s Included
- Flowering Natal Plum (Carissa) Bonsai – Each tree is slightly different. Approx. 6–8” tall and 6–8” wide.
- Tinyroots All-Purpose Blend Bonsai Soil – A tropical-friendly blend designed for drainage and healthy roots.
- Glazed Bonsai Pot – A perfectly sized glazed pot. Colors vary, but we’ll choose a combo that looks great.
- Bonsai Wire + Drainage Mesh – About 3 feet of bonsai wire for anchoring and shaping, plus mesh with holes large enough for proper drainage.
- Bamboo Chopstick – The unsung hero of repotting: perfect for safely loosening the root mass and working soil into air pockets.
Quick Natal Plum Care (Simple + Effective)
- Light: Bright light is key. A sunny window, sunroom, or grow light works great. More light = stronger growth and better flowering.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the top of the soil starts to dry. Don’t let it sit bone-dry for long periods, and don’t leave it waterlogged.
- Temperature: Natal Plum is tropical. Protect it from cold, bring indoors before nights get chilly in the fall.
- Pruning: It responds well to pruning once established. Let it push growth, then prune back to build structure.
- Fertilizer: During active growth, feed regularly to support vigor and encourage blooms. We recommend Bonsai Thrive 180
The “Build” Experience
Unbox it, set up your pot + tray, work the roots, tuck in the soil, top dress it, and then start shaping. It’s the kind of kit where you’ll finish and think: “I made this.”
