Imported Chinese Elm Pre-Bonsai – Curved Trunk + Clean Silhouette
This Chinese Elm has a great “read” from across the room: a confident curved trunk line and a canopy that’s already separating into distinct pads. It feels like a bonsai-in-progress in the best way. Enough structure to be exciting now, and enough open space that you can refine it quickly with pruning and wiring.
Timing note: This tree is currently offered in a training pot while it’s at our Florida nursery. If it doesn’t sell by March 9, it will be upgraded into a ceramic bonsai pot and transferred to our Massachusetts nursery for local sales.
About the Tree
- Species: Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia)
- Approx. Size: 15” tall (soil to apex) and 14” wide
- Current Pot: 8” trainer pot
- Location: Ships from our Florida nursery
- Photo note: Photos show the exact tree you’ll receive
Why This Elm Is a Great Styling Candidate
- Strong trunk movement that anchors the composition
- Two-pad silhouette that’s easy to tighten and refine
- Pruning-responsive—ramification and density build quickly with consistent work
- Adaptable—can be kept warm/indoor or transitioned to cold-hardy outdoor bonsai over time
Shipping + Leaf Drop Note (Normal)
Chinese Elms may drop foliage during shipping or after a location change. That is normal. With stable light, proper watering, and a little time, it will push fresh growth as it acclimates.
Tropical vs Cold Hardy
- Tropical/indoor approach: Keep warm with bright light (sunny window or grow light) for year-round growth.
- Cold-hardy approach: These can be acclimated to outdoor culture over time (we do this once trees move from FL to MA). Many hobbyists prefer the seasonal look once transitioned.
Quick Care (Simple + Effective)
- Light: Bright light is best. Outdoors in season is ideal; indoors needs strong light.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry. Don’t let it sit bone-dry for long stretches.
- Pruning: Let it extend, then prune back to tighten pads and refine the silhouette.
