Shohin Japanese Black Pine – Gerald Rainville Collection
This is a serious shohin Japanese Black Pine with the kind of base and character you usually have to wait years to earn. It’s seed-grown and came directly from the Gerald Rainville material we acquired, and that matters, because when these are gone from our website, there is no restock.
Just look at the tree you see: a powerful, compact trunk with natural movement, a wide, gripping base that already reads “old,” and a clean shohin silhouette that’s begging to be refined. The branches are positioned with plenty of options ahead. This is the kind of pine that rewards someone who enjoys the process: building structure, dialing in ramification, and turning a great start into a lifetime tree.
Why This Pine Is Worth Grabbing Now
- Seed-grown character: authentic trunk and bark development you don’t get from shortcuts
- Shohin proportions: compact, display-friendly, and perfect for building a refined pine at a manageable size
- Collector provenance: from Gerald Rainville’s small-tree material — limited supply, no repeats
- Future potential: great base + usable branches = a pine that can be taken in multiple directions
