Handmade Bonsai Pot by Yamafusa (Takehiko Koie)
This handmade rectangular bonsai pot was made in Tokoname, Japan by Yamafusa (Takehiko Koie). I purchased this pot directly through another artist and guide while in Japan.
This is a very clean, confident rectangle with a soft cream exterior and a warm pink interior that gives it a calm but collected presence. The form is disciplined and architectural, yet the light clay tone keeps it from feeling severe. It has the kind of balance collectors look for in a pot that can support a quality tree without fighting for attention.
What makes this piece especially appealing is its proportion. The walls have enough height and taper to give the pot structure, while the broad rim and softened corners keep the presentation elegant rather than rigid. It feels formal, but not cold. That makes it an excellent candidate for deciduous material, flowering bonsai, or a refined evergreen that would benefit from a lighter, quieter container.
The cream exterior has a soft, almost velvety look in the photos, while the unglazed pink interior adds warmth and a sense of craftsmanship when viewed from above. That contrast gives the pot more personality than a standard plain rectangle. It is understated, but not forgettable. This is the sort of pot that earns appreciation over time because the form is right, the tone is right, and it will remain useful in a serious collection for years.
