The Best Bonsai Potter You've Never Heard Of!
Clayton Lanphear is 80 years old and a retired doctor living in Chepachet, RI, where he runs a little art shop. For many years, Clayton was an avid bonsai enthusiast, potter, and Nick Lenz contemporary.
Clayton experimented with glazes and especially loved the arduous task of wood-firing his pots. His pots are delicate in design, with thin shells, fine lines, and glazes you won't see again.
All Clayton's pots are fired to a cone 7 or 10. Clayton is an excellent potter, creating hundreds of pots in his lifetime, but because he retired from making bonsai pots before the Internet became a thing, no one has ever heard of him.
In our ongoing quest to bring you the best that Bonsai has to offer, we recently discovered Clayton's work and are happy to give him the exposure he deserves. We plan to bring in more of his pots, but what remains is limited, so enjoy them while you can. There will be no replacements once they are gone.
