Handmade Bonsai Pot by Shuho (Hidemi Kataoka)
This elegant round bonsai pot was made at Yoshimura Toen in Tokoname by Shuho (Hidemi Kataoka), 5th generation. I visited the kiln in November 2025 and hand-selected pots directly from what was available on site, not from a catalog.
This piece features a graceful flared silhouette paired with a richly variegated green glaze. The surface has a flowing, mossy character with darker undertones beneath brighter emerald movement, giving the pot depth and a strong handmade presence. It feels both lively and grounded, with a natural energy that stands out without being overpowering.

- Style: Round flared form with a gently expanding rim and subtle petal-like foot detail.
- Feet: Integrated scalloped feet formed into the base.
- Exterior: Glossy green glaze with darker undertones and organic flowing variation throughout.
- Interior: Unglazed interior with a glazed upper rim.

Meet the Artist
Shuho, also known as Hidemi Kataoka, is a 5th-generation potter working at Yoshimura Toen in Tokoname, Japan. His family kiln is respected for its long pottery tradition and for producing bonsai containers that balance function, craftsmanship, and understated beauty. Visiting the kiln in person gave me the opportunity to select pieces that felt special in hand, each one carrying the character of the workshop and the region.

Shipping Bonsai Trees:
Bonsai trees are generally shipped on Mondays & Tuesdays to avoid having them stay in the boxes for any extra time over the weekends.
Shipping Non-Tree Items
All non-bonsai items such as bonsai pots and bonsai supplies are shipped within 48 hours of receiving payment. Most orders are shipped either the same day or the next day, depending on the time of day the order is received.
Important Guidelines:
** We cannot ship to a FPO, APO, P.O. Box or to locations in Alaska, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or anywhere internationally.
** All Bonsai are shipped direct from the nursery and may ship separately from other items purchased via the Bonsai Outlet.
** If extreme weather is expected, we may delay shipping your Bonsai tree to guarantee a healthy arrival; in such a case we will contact you. We are shipping living trees and must be conscious of the temperature conditions to the delivery address, as well as, while in transit. That said, we reserve the right to hold the tree(s) to guarantee a healthy delivery. We will Hold Your Tree Until It is Safe to Ship.
