Handmade Tokoname Bonsai Pot
This distinctive round bonsai pot was purchased in Tokoname, Japan during my November 2025 buying trip, where we had the opportunity to visit kilns, build relationships, and hand-select pots directly from what was available on site.
I purchased this piece from the Bigei kiln, but I was also walking around, looking through available pots, and selecting pieces that stood out to me. The signature on this pot differs from the standard Bigei marks I typically see, so I am attributing it conservatively as an unidentified Tokoname artist pot until further confirmation.
This pot has a soft rounded form with a broad rolled rim and a rich textured green glaze with earthy variation throughout. The glaze has a natural, slightly weathered character that gives the piece warmth, depth, and an aged feel.
- Condition note: This pot is new old stock. Any minor irregularities, kiln character, or variation in glaze are part of the pot’s handmade nature and visible in the photos.
- Style: Round bonsai pot with a broad rolled rim and softly rounded body.
- Feet: Low integrated feet that provide subtle lift while keeping the profile grounded and clean.
- Exterior: Textured green glaze with earthy tonal variation and a softly mottled surface that highlights the handmade character of the pot.
- Interior: Glazed side walls with an unglazed clay floor. Includes one drainage hole and three wire holes.
Dimensions:
- Outside: 5.75” x 2.25”

Artist / Kiln Note:
This pot was purchased directly from the Bigei kiln in Tokoname, Japan. However, because the signature differs from the standard Bigei marks I typically encounter, I am listing it as an unidentified Tokoname artist pot purchased from the Bigei kiln.
