Vintage Unglazed Bonsai Pot from Seizan Kiln
This vintage bonsai pot came from Seizan Kiln in Tokoname, Japan. During my visit in November 2025, I was given the rare opportunity to look through different areas of the kiln and select a small number of older pots that were separate from the standard current production. It was a real honor to be allowed access to these pieces.
Unfortunately, I do not have the full history of this specific pot, but like the others from this group, it is clearly an older, previously used example with character, age, and a presence that newer production pots simply do not have.
This glazed oval bonsai pot has a very low, refined profile with a soft rounded rim, understated feet, and a beautifully weathered surface that speaks to age and use. The clay shows natural patina, tonal variation, and subtle signs of wear that give the pot a quiet, collected feel. Its compact size and shallow depth make it especially appealing for mame and shohin bonsai.
- Origin: Seizan Kiln, Tokoname, Japan
- Shape: Oval
- Finish: Unglazed
- Exterior Dimensions: 5.75" x 4.75" x 1"
- Interior Dimensions: 5" x 4.25" x 0.75"
- Condition: Old and previously used
What makes this pot stand out is its quiet maturity. The lower silhouette, softened clay surface, and signs of past use give it an authenticity that works beautifully with smaller, more established plantings. It is an especially nice choice for growers who appreciate subtle age, restrained design, and the charm of older kiln-selected Tokoname pottery.
Each photo shown is of the actual pot you will receive.
Note: Because this is an older kiln-selected pot, minor signs of age, prior use, surface irregularity, and patina are part of its character and should be expected.
