Handmade Bonsai Pot by Shuho (Hidemi Kataoka)
This handmade round bonsai pot was made at Yoshimura Toen in Tokoname by Shuho (Hidemi Kataoka), 5th generation. I visited the kiln in November 2025 and hand-selected pots directly from what was available on site, not from a catalog.
This piece has a taller flared profile with a strong, practical silhouette and a warm natural clay character. The unglazed surface shows soft earth tones with darker kiln-fired banding and scattered mineral spotting, giving the pot a rustic, wood-fired feel. It has a lot of handmade character while still feeling balanced and functional.
- Condition note: This pot is new.
- Style: Round flared form with a slightly rolled rim and taller tapering body.
- Feet: Cut feet with a sturdy integrated base.
- Exterior: Unglazed warm earth-toned clay with darker horizontal firing bands and natural surface variation.
- Interior: Unglazed interior with one main drainage hole.
Dimensions:
- Outside: 5” x 3.5”
