Handmade Bonsai Pot by Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka)

This handmade bonsai pot was made at Seizan Kiln in Tokoname by Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka), 4th generation. I visited the kiln in November 2025 and had the honor of hand-selecting pots directly from what was available on site, not from a catalog.

Condition note: This pot is new and unused.

This deeper unglazed rectangle has a strong, grounded presence with softly rounded corners, a broad projecting rim, and elegant scroll-style feet. The warm reddish-brown Tokoname clay shows subtle tonal variation across the surface, giving the pot depth and character without overwhelming the tree. Its proportions make it especially well suited for shohin bonsai, compact deciduous material, and small conifers that benefit from a slightly deeper container.

  • Artist: Reiho (Katsushi Kataoka)
  • Kiln: Seizan Kiln, Tokoname, Japan
  • Shape: Rectangle
  • Finish: Unglazed
  • Exterior Dimensions: 9.75" x 8" x 3.75"
  • Interior Dimensions: 8.5" x 6.5" x 2.75"
  • Condition: New

The deeper body provides useful root space while keeping the overall presentation refined and balanced. The softened rim and subtle feet help this pot pair easily with a wide range of trees, especially where a quiet but substantial container is the right fit.

Each photo shown is of the actual pot you will receive.
