Preston Duncan Rock Slabs
Preston Duncan is a Connecticut-based ceramicist and bonsai enthusiast who started making handmade slabs in 2022. What began as a side project quickly turned into a passion—finding ways to make ceramic pieces that look like they came straight from nature, yet hold up beautifully in bonsai displays. Each slab is crafted completely by hand, starting with a steel wire armature that gives the piece its structure. Preston then builds up layers using his own custom ceramic blend, shaping the form over several sessions. After curing for more than 60 days, each slab is hand-stained and finished, then cured again for another month before it's ready to go. The result is something truly unique—no molds, no copies, just one-of-a-kind pieces that feel like they belong outdoors. Preston’s work lives in that sweet spot where art and nature meet—and that’s exactly what makes it special.
