Drainage Netting for Bonsai Pots
Drainage netting is used to cover the drainage holes in a bonsai pot during repotting. Its main purpose is simple: it helps keep your bonsai soil in the pot while still allowing water to drain freely.
Without drainage mesh, loose soil particles can wash out through the drainage holes when you water the tree. By placing mesh over the holes first, you create a barrier that helps hold the soil in place while still supporting proper drainage and airflow.
Why Bonsai Pots Need Drainage Mesh
- Helps prevent bonsai soil from falling out of the drainage holes
- Allows water to drain properly after watering
- Supports healthy airflow through the bottom of the pot
- Helps keep the potting setup cleaner and more secure during repotting
When to Use It
Drainage netting is typically used whenever you repot a bonsai tree into a ceramic bonsai pot or training pot with drainage holes. It is a standard bonsai repotting supply and is especially helpful when using loose aggregate soils or ready-to-use bonsai soil blends.
Material and Features
This drainage mesh is a flexible black synthetic netting that is easy to cut to size for different pots. It is designed to provide support over the drainage holes while resisting mildew and moisture-related breakdown.
How to Use It
- Cut a small piece of mesh slightly larger than the drainage hole.
- Place it over the hole on the inside bottom of the pot.
- Secure it in place, typically with bonsai wire.
- Add your bonsai soil and complete the repotting process.
What Is Included
Each package includes five sheets of drainage mesh, each measuring 12 inches by 4 inches.
If you are repotting bonsai trees, drainage netting is one of those simple supplies that makes the job cleaner, easier, and more professional.
