All stands are crafted of both machines and hand tools. The stands are not mass produced. The process starts with the design and from there the size. Once that is established the material is determined. A combination of various hardwoods is used, which may consist walnut, oak, cherry, maple as well as exotics and chestnut.
All stands are designed on paper first and occasionally a mock up is constructed of less valuable wood which allows for changes and mistakes. The wood shop that consists of a lathe, planer, drill press, 2 band saws-one for general work and one set up for resewing only. A wide belt sander, an oscillating sanders combo disc/belt sander and of course a table saw. All professional grade machines. A full range of hand tools that allow for unique and custom touches to the stands at various stages of construction.
There is a finishing area used to complete the finishing process. When the wood itself is dark we usually finish in a natural look with a clear lacquer. If we think the stands are too light or unevenly grained they are toned or stained to bring the overall look to a more pleasing stage. We then follow up with 2-3 coats of clear lacquer.
