A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

At the bottom of the pouch are icons for "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" and a green checkmark indicating the product is "Ready to Use." The weight is listed as Net Wt. 10 oz (280 g). The overall image conveys a high-quality, specialized maintenance product for bonsai enthusiasts.

A 40-Year-Old Japanese Black Pine You Get to Style Yourself

This Japanese Black Pine was started from seed by Gerald Rainville in 1986. That is 40 years of container-grown development before it ever reaches your bench.

We do not style every great tree that comes through the nursery. We know many of you want quality pre-bonsai with age, character and enough growth to make your own decisions. This is exactly that kind of tree.

The rugged trunk and established branching are partially hidden beneath a full canopy of needles. Once you begin selecting branches and opening the tree, there is a lot here to work with. Develop it yourself, bring it to a workshop or work alongside a professional. The next chapter belongs to whoever takes it home.

This is a one-of-a-kind tree with real history. Once it is sold, this exact tree is gone. You will receive the exact Japanese Black Pine shown in the photographs.

Outdoor Care

Japanese Black Pine is an outdoor bonsai and should be grown outside in full sun. It needs natural seasonal changes and a winter dormancy period. Protect the roots from extreme winter conditions based on your climate.

Shipping Confidence

This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery and will be carefully packed to protect its trunk, branches, roots, soil and Tokoname grow pot during transit.

Some older interior needles may loosen or fall during shipping. This is normal for pines and does not necessarily indicate a problem with the tree.

Please Note

All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
