Chinese Elm Bonsai with Curved Trunk in Light Blue Glazed Yixing Pot
This Chinese Elm has a nice, easy-to-enjoy bonsai shape with good trunk movement, established branching, and a clean glazed pot that gives it a finished look.
The trunk has a natural curve as it rises from the soil, then moves into a set of layered branches and foliage pads. It has a softer, more informal feel instead of being stiff or overly symmetrical. The lower trunk has some age and texture, while the upper structure gives the tree a classic Chinese Elm bonsai silhouette.
The branching is already in place, with pads arranged around the tree at different levels. It has recently been cleaned up and pruned, so the structure is visible and the next owner can continue building density through regular trimming. Chinese Elms respond very well to pruning, so this tree should continue to fill in nicely with time and care.
The tree is planted in a 9" glazed Yixing ceramic pot with a light blue finish. The pot color works well with the pale trunk and small green leaves, giving the bonsai a bright, clean presentation without distracting from the tree itself.
Why We Like This Tree
- The trunk movement: The curved trunk gives the tree a more natural and interesting shape.
- The branch structure: The branches are already placed in layers, giving the tree a clear bonsai form.
- The foliage: Small green Chinese Elm leaves help keep the tree in scale.
- The pot: The light blue glazed Yixing pot gives the tree a clean, finished look.
- The future potential: With regular pruning, the pads should continue to tighten and develop nicely.

Care Notes
Chinese Elm is a strong and forgiving bonsai species, which is one reason it remains so popular. It likes bright light and should be watered when the soil begins to dry slightly. Do not let the tree completely dry out.
In warm climates, Chinese Elm can be grown outdoors most or all of the year. In colder areas, it should be protected from freezing temperatures and overwintered appropriately. Regular pruning will help maintain the shape and encourage denser foliage pads over time.
