A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

At the bottom of the pouch are icons for "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" and a green checkmark indicating the product is "Ready to Use." The weight is listed as Net Wt. 10 oz (280 g). The overall image conveys a high-quality, specialized maintenance product for bonsai enthusiasts.

Dwarf Jade & Chinese Elm Pre-Bonsai Kit – Compact Elm, Strong Jade – Exact Trees Shown

This is a really solid pre-bonsai pair if you want two very different species that each bring something useful to the bench.

The Dwarf Jade in this kit has a strong trunk, good taper, and a fuller top with healthy succulent foliage. It feels established, sturdy, and ready to keep developing. The Chinese Elm is smaller, more compact, and has a tighter canopy with a nice little trunk line that already gives it some character.

Together, this is a balanced kit. The Jade gives you strength and structure. The Elm gives you a more delicate, traditional bonsai look. If you like variety, this is a good one.

These exact trees were photographed on August 7, 2026. What you see is what you will receive.

What’s Included

  • 1 Dwarf Jade pre-bonsai, approximately 13" tall from soil to apex
  • 1 Chinese Elm pre-bonsai, approximately 6" tall from soil to apex
  • Both trees planted in 6" grow pots

The Dwarf Jade

This Dwarf Jade was started from a cutting approximately five years ago. It has a thicker trunk than you usually see in entry-level material, along with a branching structure that already gives the tree presence.

What I like about this one is that it feels substantial without being overworked. There’s enough trunk and branching here to make it interesting now, but still plenty of room for the next owner to shape the future of the tree.

Dwarf Jade continues to be one of the best species for beginners and one of the most satisfying for experienced growers. It’s forgiving, durable, and responds well when it’s healthy and actively growing.

The Chinese Elm

The Chinese Elm in this pair is more compact and understated, but that’s part of the appeal. It has a shorter profile, a thicker base in proportion to its size, and a tidy canopy that makes it feel like a nice little bonsai project rather than generic starter stock.

This tree was imported and is currently being grown as a tropical. If you live in a northern state, you may eventually want to transition it to a cold-hardy seasonal cycle. That’s optional, but it’s something to keep in mind down the road.

Chinese Elms are a great species to learn on because they branch well, recover well, and offer a more classic bonsai feel. This one is small, but it has potential.

Why This Pair Works

Not every kit needs two large trees. Sometimes a pair like this is more interesting because each tree plays a different role.

The Jade is the anchor here — heavier trunk, more visual weight, and more immediate presence. The Elm is smaller and more refined, with a tighter silhouette and a different styling path. That contrast is what makes this kit work.

If you want two popular species with very different personalities, this is a strong choice.

Shipping Notes

Chinese Elms commonly shed some leaves during shipping or shortly after arrival. That is normal and should be expected. In most cases, the tree settles in and continues growing once it adjusts to its new environment.

The Dwarf Jade generally ships very well, though minor cosmetic changes in transit are always possible with live plants.

What you see is what you will receive.

Please Note

All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final - no refunds, returns, or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out - we're happy to help.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
