Dwarf Jade & S-Curve Chinese Elm Pre-Bonsai Pair – Exact Trees Shown
This pair gives you two very different trees to work with, and both already have real trunks and established branching.
The Dwarf Jade is the larger tree in this set. It has a thick, upright trunk, multiple primary branches, and a lot of healthy growth throughout the canopy. The Chinese Elm has a more compact shape with a strong S-curve through the trunk and a dense crown that is ready to be thinned, shaped, and refined.
These are two of the most popular bonsai species we sell, offered together in pre-bonsai form. Only six individually photographed kits are available. This pair was photographed on August 7, 2026, and what you see is exactly what you will receive.
The Dwarf Jade
This Dwarf Jade was started from a cutting approximately five years ago. It has a thick trunk, several established branches, and plenty of growth to work with. It is still in a 6" grow pot, so you can continue developing it before deciding on the final design and bonsai pot.
Dwarf Jade is our number-one-selling bonsai species. It is forgiving, responds extremely well to pruning, and grows quickly when it is warm and actively growing. It is a great species for someone learning bonsai, but there is enough structure here to keep a more experienced hobbyist interested too.
The Chinese Elm
This imported Chinese Elm has a pronounced S-shaped trunk with a dense canopy positioned above it. The trunk already gives the tree a clear direction. From here, the fun is deciding how much of the existing growth to keep and where to begin opening the canopy so the branch structure becomes more visible.
The Elm is currently being grown as a tropical tree. You can continue maintaining it that way. If you live in a northern state, you may eventually decide to transition it to a cold-hardy seasonal cycle, but that should be done gradually and at the appropriate time of year.

Why This Pair Works
The Jade gives you a heavier trunk, succulent foliage, and fast regrowth after pruning. The Elm gives you finer branching, smaller leaves, and a more traditional deciduous bonsai shape.
One tree is upright and substantial. The other is compact with pronounced trunk movement. Together, they give you two very different bonsai projects without starting with seedlings or young starter plants.
Shipping Expectations
Chinese Elms commonly shed foliage during shipping and while adjusting to a new environment. Some trees may lose only a few leaves, while others may drop a significant amount. This is normal for the species and does not automatically mean the tree is unhealthy.
Once the Elm settles into appropriate light and growing conditions, it should begin producing fresh foliage. The Dwarf Jade generally handles shipping well, although minor foliage changes are always possible.
What you see is what you will receive.
Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final - no refunds, returns, or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out - we're happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
