A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

An Established Dwarf Larch with Rugged Bark and a Possible Vintage Yamaaki Pot

This is the exact tree shown in the photos.

I recently purchased this Dwarf Larch from a local grower, collector, and artist. This tree has clearly had years of work put into it. It has a rugged trunk, established branching, and a tall, compact shape that works well for the species.

The trunk has good taper and rough, mature bark that becomes heavier toward the base. The branches are already arranged in distinct levels, with plenty of smaller growth available for continued refinement.

At 20" tall with a 14" spread, the tree has a narrow, upright presence without taking up an excessive amount of bench space. It is a nice size for someone who wants an established larch that can continue improving with selective pruning and branch work.

The tree is planted in a 10" ceramic bonsai pot that I believe may be an older Japanese Yamaaki pot. I have not been able to confirm the potter or age, so I want to be clear that the Yamaaki attribution is based on my current assessment and is not guaranteed. Even without a confirmed attribution, it is a very good pot and complements the rugged character of the tree.

Dwarf Larch is also a great species for seasonal change. Its soft green needles take on golden color in the fall before dropping, revealing the trunk and branch structure during winter.

Seasonal Interest

Larch is one of the few deciduous conifers. It produces soft green needles in spring, carries green foliage through the growing season, and typically turns golden in the fall before dropping its needles.

During winter dormancy, the tree will be bare and its rugged trunk and established branch structure will become the focus. Fresh needles will return in spring.

Photography Note

This tree was photographed on August 9, 2026. The photos show the actual tree for sale at the time of photography.

Shipping Note

This tree ships from Massachusetts. It will be watered, secured, and packed carefully for shipment. Minor movement of the foliage, moss, or soil may occur during transit.

Care Note

Dwarf Larch bonsai must be grown outdoors. Give the tree plenty of sunlight, good airflow, and thorough watering whenever the soil begins approaching dryness. Do not allow the root system to dry out completely.

Larch requires a cold winter dormancy. Protect the pot and root system during severe winter weather, especially from drying winds and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
