A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

At the bottom of the pouch are icons for "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" and a green checkmark indicating the product is "Ready to Use." The weight is listed as Net Wt. 10 oz (280 g). The overall image conveys a high-quality, specialized maintenance product for bonsai enthusiasts.

Imported Chinese Elm Bonsai with Elegant Trunk Movement

This imported Chinese Elm has a graceful, open look with a lot of movement and plenty of branch structure to continue developing.

The trunk is the first thing that stands out. It rises from the pot with a strong curve, then twists upward into an open canopy of branches. It has that nice aged Chinese Elm character without feeling too heavy or overgrown. The pale bark, textured trunk, and natural bends give the tree a lot of visual interest from top to bottom.

The branching has already been opened up, so you can clearly see the structure of the tree. There are branches placed throughout the trunk line, giving the next owner plenty to work with as the foliage fills back in. With regular pruning, this elm can be refined into a more compact, mature-looking bonsai while still keeping its natural movement.

The base has good character as well, with surface roots and lower trunk movement that help anchor the tree into the pot. It is planted in a 14" glazed Japanese ceramic pot, giving the bonsai a clean, finished presentation while still keeping the focus on the trunk and branch structure.

Why We Like This Tree

  • The trunk movement: The curved trunk gives the tree a graceful, natural flow.
  • The open branch structure: The branching is easy to see and gives you plenty of options for future refinement.
  • The bark character: The pale, textured bark adds age and interest throughout the tree.
  • The size: At 24" tall with an 18" spread, this elm has a strong presence without being oversized.
  • The pot: The glazed Japanese ceramic pot gives the tree a clean, polished look.

Care Notes

Chinese Elm is a strong and forgiving bonsai species. It likes bright light and should be watered when the soil begins to dry slightly. Do not let the tree completely dry out.

In warm climates, Chinese Elm can be grown outdoors most or all of the year. In colder areas, it should be protected from freezing temperatures and overwintered appropriately. Regular pruning will help encourage new growth, improve ramification, and continue developing the branch pads over time.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
