An Incredible Itoigawa That Has Already Had a Lot of Work
This is the exact tree shown in the photos.
I recently purchased this Itoigawa from a local bonsai club member. You can tell immediately that a lot of work has already gone into this tree.
The trunk is excellent. It has great movement and taper, along with a live vein that twists around the deadwood. There is a little shari running through the trunk and several jin that add even more character.
Most of the branches have already been wired and positioned. There is still refinement work ahead, but the structure and direction of the tree are already there. The foliage is healthy and compact, with plenty of growth available for developing tighter pads.
The black wire loop near the base marks what should become the new front. From that angle, you get a great view of the trunk movement, live vein, shari, and jin. The front and planting angle can be adjusted during a future repot when the timing is right.
The tree is currently planted in a 7" Tokoname grow pot. The rim is chipped, and the damage is clearly shown in the photos. It is still a useful development pot, but I want to make sure there are no surprises when the tree arrives.

Development Note
This tree has already been worked extensively, but it is not a finished bonsai. Most of the branches have been wired and positioned, giving the next owner a very good starting point for continued refinement.
The wire should be checked regularly and removed before it begins cutting into the bark. A future repot will also provide an opportunity to establish the indicated front and adjust the planting angle.
Photography Note
This tree was photographed on August 9, 2026. The photos show the actual Itoigawa and chipped Tokoname grow pot for sale.
Shipping Note
This tree ships from Massachusetts. It will be watered, secured, and packed carefully for shipment. Extra care will be taken to protect the wired branches, deadwood, and chipped pot. Minor movement of the foliage, moss, wire, or soil may occur during transit.
Due to USDA regulations, Junipers cannot be shipped to California.
Care Note
Itoigawa Shimpaku is an outdoor bonsai and must remain outside year-round. Give the tree plenty of sunlight, good airflow, and thorough watering when the soil begins approaching dryness. Do not allow the root system to dry out completely.
Junipers require a natural winter dormancy. Protect the pot and root system during severe winter weather, especially from drying winds and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
