An Old Virginia Creeper with Collection History and Incredible Fall Color
This is the exact tree shown in the photos.
This old Virginia Creeper bonsai is a special tree with real history. We purchased it several years ago, and before that, it was part of Tim Shoup’s collection. It has the kind of aged, rugged character that is hard to create quickly. A heavy old base, textured bark, mature branching, and a canopy of fresh green spring foliage.
Virginia Creeper is especially exciting as a bonsai because of its seasonal transformation. In spring and summer, it carries bright green compound leaves that give the tree a lush, full look. In fall, it can become absolutely spectacular, turning brilliant shades of red, orange, and burgundy. This is one of those trees that may look good now, but can become a showstopper later in the season.
The tree has been moved into a glazed Yixing ceramic pot, and the pairing works beautifully. The soft blue glaze contrasts nicely with the rugged dark trunk and will look even better when the foliage starts to shift into fall color.
This is an uncommon bonsai with age, provenance, seasonal drama, and a great pot pairing already in place.
