Upright Dwarf Jade & Curved Chinese Elm Pre-Bonsai Kit – Exact Trees Shown
If you’re looking for a kit that gives you two very different bonsai experiences right out of the gate, this is a really nice pair.
On the left, you’ve got a strong, upright Dwarf Jade with a thicker trunk, compact structure, and healthy new growth pushing from all over the tree. On the right, you’ve got a Chinese Elm with a graceful curved trunk and a softer, more refined silhouette. They’re completely different trees, which is exactly what makes this a fun kit.
These are two of our most popular species in pre-bonsai form, and this pair gives you a good contrast in both styling and care. The Jade is tougher, forgiving, and fast to respond. The Elm brings a more traditional bonsai feel, finer branching, and a different kind of design challenge.
This exact pair was photographed on August 7, 2026. What you see is what you will receive.
What’s Included
- 1 Dwarf Jade pre-bonsai, approximately 15" tall from soil to apex
- 1 Chinese Elm pre-bonsai, approximately 10" tall from soil to apex
- Both trees planted in 6" grow pots
The Dwarf Jade
This Jade was started from a cutting approximately five years ago. It has a heavier trunk than most starter material, a nice upright presence, and a lot of usable branching already in place.
I like this one because it has enough structure to feel like a real project, but it still leaves plenty of room for the next owner to decide where the tree goes. You can keep developing it in the grow pot, or begin slowly refining the branching over time.
Dwarf Jade continues to be our number one selling bonsai tree for a reason. It’s durable, beginner-friendly, and incredibly rewarding to work with.
The Chinese Elm
This imported Chinese Elm has a completely different personality. The trunk has good movement, and the canopy already leans into that classic bonsai look. It’s more graceful than the Jade, and it gives you a very different styling opportunity.
The tree is currently being grown as a tropical. If you live in a northern state, you may eventually want to transition it to a cold-hardy seasonal cycle. That’s something to do carefully and at the proper time, but it’s absolutely an option down the road.
Chinese Elms are one of my favorite species for branch development because they reward patience. This one already has a solid foundation, and with time, it could become a really attractive little bonsai.
Why This Pair Sells Well
There’s a reason these mixed-species kits are popular. You’re not getting two versions of the same thing. You’re getting two trees with different strengths, different habits, and different styling paths.
The Jade is bold, sturdy, and forgiving. The Elm is more delicate in appearance, with movement and a more classic bonsai feel. If you want a kit that keeps things interesting, this is a good one.

Shipping Notes
Chinese Elms commonly shed some leaves during shipping or after arrival. That is normal and should be expected. In many cases, they settle in and push fresh growth once they adjust to their new environment.
The Dwarf Jade generally ships very well, though like any live plant, minor cosmetic changes during transit are always possible.
What you see is what you will receive.
Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final - no refunds, returns, or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out - we're happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
