Exceptional Mature Tamarind Bonsai in a Vintage Shuho Tokoname Pot
You will receive the exact tree shown in these photographs.
I recently acquired this Tamarind from a local collector, and it is arguably the best Tamarind I have seen. The base alone makes this tree special. It is massive and rounded, with thick surface roots extending over the soil in every direction.
From that heavy base, the trunk makes a sharp turn before coming back up through the canopy. The bark is mature and textured, the taper is excellent, and the movement can be followed all the way from the roots to the apex. This is not raw material. It is an old, heavily developed tree with years of work already in it.
There is extensive wiring throughout the canopy, but there is also a tremendous amount of established branch structure underneath it. The branches have been positioned to create separation and movement while keeping the natural character of the species. The fresh green compound leaves add a soft contrast to the powerful trunk.
The tree is planted in a vintage Japanese Tokoname bonsai pot by Shuho of Yoshimura Toen. The blue-green glaze, low oval shape, and raised detailing around the rim are an excellent match for the tree. The underside and maker’s mark are shown in the photographs.

Care Note
Tamarind is a tropical species that appreciates warmth, bright light, and protection from cold temperatures. In colder climates, it will need to be brought indoors before temperatures become too cold. Water thoroughly when needed, but do not allow the tree to remain waterlogged. Its compound leaves may naturally fold during the evening.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
