Imported Chinese Elm Pre-Bonsai – Thick Trunk, Great Branching, Serious Potential
This is the kind of pre-bonsai that makes you want to clear a spot on the bench. An imported Chinese Elm with the features everyone looks for: thick trunk, strong movement, and branching that’s already heading in the right direction. It has “bonsai” written all over it.
Important timing: If this tree is not sold by March 9, it will be moved into a ceramic bonsai pot and transferred to our Massachusetts nursery for in-person sales.

Shipping + Foliage Note (Please Read)
Chinese Elms may drop foliage during shipping. That is normal. Once the tree settles into its new environment with consistent light and watering, it will push new growth.
Tropical vs Cold Hardy (Your Choice)
- Keep it tropical/indoor: Bright light, warm temps, and steady care.
- Convert to cold hardy: Once these move from our Florida nursery to Massachusetts, we gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions. Many people feel Chinese Elms look even better as cold-hardy trees.
Quick Care (Simple + Effective)
- Light: Bright light is best. Outdoors in season is ideal; indoors needs a sunny window or quality grow light.
- Water: Water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry. Don’t let it stay bone-dry for long stretches.
- Pruning: Let it grow, then prune back to build ramification and silhouette.
