Kishu Shimpaku Juniper Pre-Bonsai – Mark Comstock Cutting Material, Styled & Potted in Tokoname
This is a true “circle of life” tree - and it’s the kind of material Shimpaku people get excited about.
A few years ago, Mark Comstock purchased several mother trees from us specifically for cutting material. Mark is known for growing strong, high-quality bonsai stock, and this is that work returning to NEBG as a Kishu Shimpaku Juniper pre-bonsai — with real potential already showing.
Mark dropped off a batch of cuttings, and we selected a handful to shape and style here before moving them into Tokoname grow pots. The goal is simple: give you something you can actually build on, not a random cutting, not a “starter shrub,” but a young Kishu with direction.
Why Kishu matters
- Refined Shimpaku character: Kishu is prized for its clean look and bonsai-friendly growth habit
- Built for future deadwood + pads: the kind of material you can develop into tight foliage structure over time
- A better starting point: trained early so your next steps are wiring, refinement, and controlled growth
Why this tree is worth grabbing
- Proven source: derived from cutting material grown specifically for quality
- Hand-styled at NEBG: movement and early structure are already established
- Tokoname grow pot upgrade: correct container for training and strong development
- Perfect “hands-on” project: ideal for growers who want to wire and build their own Shimpaku over the next few seasons
- IMPORTANT: We Can NOT ship Junipers to California. It's a USDA State Regulation
