This is a One-Of-A-Kind Brazilian Rain Tree

The Brazilian Rain tree, or Pithecellobium torta, is an unusual tree that makes for an excellent bonsai.

Brazilian Rain trees have many interesting qualities, FOR example - the leaves fold up at night and the bark exfoliates to expose an age-revealing creamy under-bark.

The trunk and branches will flatten and undulate, producing a muscular look. They're also strong, drought tolerant and vigorous. Overall the Brazilian Rain is an excellent choice for indoor bonsai and for beginners. These versatile bonsai can be grown inside, but prefer to be out for the summer (who wouldn’t?).

Be aware that each late winter/early spring they will drop leaves, but fear not, they grow back almost immediately. Also, I took these pictures with the Flash On - that was a mistake, but hopefully you can see the trees trunk line and branches.

Features:

  • This Bonsai is 20" tall, measured from the table to the top of tree.
  • The spread is 17"
  • It ships in a 9" Ceramic pot
  • Pictures take on March 06, 2025
  • Ships from our Florida Nursery

The tree you see is the tree you'll receive.

IMPORTANT: Although Brazilian Rain trees are one of the most popular, it's important to know that they will likely lose "most" (90% of) their leaves during shipping. That is normal for these trees and they bounce back very quickly - usually within a week you'll start seeing new growth, and in a couple weeks, it should look full again.

IMPORTANT - COLD WEATHER ALERT - As the seasons change, some regions experience colder temperatures than others. We want to ensure the safe arrival of your tropical bonsai trees during these chilly times.

Please note that while we take every precaution by using heat packs, extremely cold weather can still pose risks to the health of your precious trees. If the night-time temperatures are forecasted to drop below 38 degrees Fahrenheit, we will carefully monitor and assess the weather conditions.

Should we determine that the weather might compromise the health of your bonsai during transit, we'll promptly notify you via email. We'll also provide alternative options to ensure the safe and healthy arrival of your beloved trees. Your satisfaction and the well-being of your bonsai trees are our top priorities. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
