Gardenia bonsai is all about flowers, fragrance, and presence. With glossy evergreen foliage and creamy white blooms, this is one of the most romantic and eye-catching flowering bonsai trees we offer.
It is also important to be clear from the start: this is an outdoor bonsai tree. While some sellers market gardenias as indoor bonsai, we have not had much luck with them indoors, especially in northern conditions. For the best results, this species should be kept outside during the growing season and treated as an outdoor bonsai.
NOTE: Agricultural Regulations prohibit us from shipping Gardenias to Arizona.

People are drawn to Gardenia because it offers something many bonsai do not: fragrance. When it blooms, the white flowers are elegant, classic, and incredibly appealing. This is the kind of tree that makes people stop, lean in, and smell the flowers.
It is especially appealing to customers who want a flowering bonsai with a more lush, garden-like feel. This is not a subtle tree. When it is happy, it gets attention.
Basic Care
Light: Bright light is essential. Gardenia should be kept outdoors in bright conditions during the growing season. In hotter climates, some protection from the harshest afternoon sun may help. Low light can weaken growth and reduce flowering.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, but not soggy. Do not allow the tree to dry out completely, and do not let it sit in standing water.
Temperature: Gardenia prefers roughly 70–75°F during active growth, with slightly cooler nights. It should be protected from frost and freezing temperatures. If moved to a protected winter space, keep it above 60°F. We do not recommend this species as a year-round indoor bonsai for northern homes.
Humidity: Gardenias appreciate humidity, which is one reason they generally perform better outdoors than inside a dry house.
Soil and pH: Gardenias prefer evenly moist, well-draining soil and do best under acidic conditions.

Shipping Bonsai Trees:
Bonsai trees are generally shipped on Mondays & Tuesdays to avoid having them stay in the boxes for any extra time over the weekends.
Shipping Non-Tree Items
All non-bonsai items such as bonsai pots and bonsai supplies are shipped within 48 hours of receiving payment. Most orders are shipped either the same day or the next day, depending on the time of day the order is received.

** We cannot ship to a FPO, APO, P.O. Box or to locations in Alaska, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or anywhere internationally.
** All Bonsai are shipped direct from the nursery and may ship separately from other items purchased via the Bonsai Outlet.
** If extreme weather is expected, we may delay shipping your Bonsai tree to guarantee a healthy arrival; in such a case we will contact you. We are shipping living trees and must be conscious of the temperature conditions to the delivery address, as well as, while in transit.
