Elegant Pink Flowering Bougainvillea

The Bougainvillea is a highly sought-after evergreen tropical vine that produces a dynamic spectrum of blooms ranging from pinks, oranges, whites and purples. This Bougainvillea will flower pink. It's just starting to open up. Check out the trunk on this Boug!!!

The Bougainvillea is native to South America and named after French Navy admiral and explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who both circumnavigated the globe on scientific expedition and fought against Britain during the American Revolution.

The colorful, papery "blooms" of the Bougainvillea are not actually flowers, but rather “bracts”. The true flower is white, trumpet shaped and almost unnoticeable within the bracts. Bougainvillea flower most heavily in winter and early spring. 

Being a sub-tropical tree, the Bougainvillea likes high temperatures, humidity and lots of sunlight.  It can be kept indoors as long as it gets plenty of bright sun and outdoors as long as it’s protected from freezing temperatures. Bougainvillea are also very tolerant to dryer conditions, so over-watering is probably more of a concern than under-watering.
