This is a One Of A Kind Cotoneaster
Cotoneaster bonsai, scientifically known as Cottoneaster spp., is a popular choice among bonsai enthusiasts due to its attractive features and relatively easy care requirements. Cotoneaster is a genus of shrubs and small trees that belongs to the Rosaceae family. They are native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa.
This bonsai was from Tim Shoup's collection. The tree is 45+ years old, and the green glazed pot is handmade, but we were not able to identify the potter.
The leaves are small, oval-shaped, and have a glossy dark green color. During the autumn season, Cotoneaster bonsai display vibrant red or orange foliage, adding to their visual appeal. The trunk of a Cotoneaster bonsai is usually thick and sturdy, showcasing interesting bark patterns. The bark texture varies depending on the species, ranging from smooth to slightly rough and scaly.
