The Natal Fig is an exceptionally resilient tree, ideal for crafting banyan-style bonsai. It thrives both indoors and outdoors, boasting stunning foliage pads and impressive aerial roots.

This tree produces decorative figs and vibrant red new growth.

Ficus prefers full or partial sunlight, along with moderate watering and fertilization. Being a tropical species, it must be protected from freezing conditions.

About The Species: 

• Size and Growth: In its natural environment, the Natal Fig can reach heights of 10 to 30 meters, but as a bonsai, it is cultivated to remain much smaller. This species is known for its rapid growth and vigorous nature, thriving with proper care.

• Leaves: The glossy, oval-shaped leaves of Ficus natalensis are larger compared to many other bonsai species. While the larger leaf size can pose a challenge for bonsai artists, it is possible to achieve smaller foliage with optimal conditions and careful pruning.

• Aerial Roots: A distinctive trait of the Natal Fig is its ability to develop aerial roots. These roots, which extend downward from the branches, enhance the visual appeal and allow for creative styling options that add depth and character to the bonsai.

• Flowering: During the spring, the Natal Fig produces small, often inconspicuous flowers nestled within its foliage. These blooms introduce a subtle yet colorful touch to the bonsai during its flowering season.
