  • An eye-level photograph shows a shallow, round Japanese Tokoname training bonsai pot against a plain white background. This unglazed terracotta grow pot features a tapered silhouette that narrows toward the base.

The body of the pot has a matte, natural orange-tan clay finish, while the wide, protruding rim is burnished to a smooth, glossy reddish-brown sheen that catches the light. Looking slightly down into the pot, the interior reveals the same light-colored unglazed clay. At the very bottom, small arched cutouts are visible along the base to facilitate proper drainage and airflow, which is essential for bonsai tree health.

  • A photo showcasing three Klingspor Sandflex Hand Blocks for cleaning and polishing, arranged side-by-side against a plain white background.

From left to right, the rectangular boxes are color-coded by their grit level:
* The first box on the left is bright yellow, indicating a **FINE** grit. It features the "sandflex" brand name in bold blue and white lettering, the Klingspor logo, and the text "Feel the Difference! HAND BLOCK CLEANING • POLISHING." A circular cutout reveals a smooth, dark gray abrasive block inside.
* The center box is green, representing a **MEDIUM** grit. The layout is identical to the first, but with white text for "HAND BLOCK." The visible abrasive material in the circular window has a slightly more textured appearance than the fine block.
* The final box on the right is a vibrant red for **COARSE** grit. Similar in design to the others, the circular cutout shows a noticeably rougher, pebbly dark gray texture.

These flexible abrasive blocks are essential tools for maintaining metal equipment, frequently used to remove rust, sap, and stains from high-quality bonsai shears and other gardening tools without damaging the underlying metal.

Contrary to popular belief, Bonsai Gardening isn’t difficult. Some trees are more less difficult than others, but there’s nothing to be intimated by.

We usually respond to this by telling people that it is possible to kill anything, but given that, here are a few helpful facts: If you are just starting out and planning on keeping your bonsai inside most of the time you need a tropical tree. A succulent, like Mini Jade is good to start with. Other good varieties include Arboricola, Brazilian Rain Tree and Chinese elm.

Unfortunately it is impossible to list the symptoms of either in a concise manner.

Very generally speaking, if the roots collapse from lack of water you are likely to see a ‘freeze dried’ look to the leaves or needles. This will happen quite soon after the roots get too dry. Usually within a day or matter of a few days.

Over watering usually takes longer and results in a slower decline but both should be avoided.

Trust your instincts and review your habits, and remember, trees are trees and will grow leaves and drop leaves ( or needles) naturally, so some seasonal dropping of foliage is normal.

No, you will need to transplant it. Usually every one to three years is the norm.
