Australian Brush Cherry Bonsai Styled by Peter Olson

Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.

This is the exact tree shown in the photographs.

Australian Brush Cherry is one of the easiest tropical species to grow as bonsai. Left alone, they naturally want to become round, dense topiaries. The good part is that they grow quickly, branch easily and respond very well to pruning.

We have been working on this tree for a couple of years. Peter Olson recently thinned and styled it, opening the interior and separating the growth into usable branches. There is still plenty of branching to work with, but the tree now has a much better structure than the solid ball of foliage.

Australian Brush Cherry develops a thick taproot, so moving one from a nursery container into a proper bonsai pot takes time. We did not rush this one. It has now been moved into a 9.5-inch etched Yixing ceramic pot that gives the tree a much more finished appearance.

This is a forgiving tropical bonsai with a good start already in place. It would be a great choice for someone who wants a tree that is easy to maintain while still offering plenty of opportunities to prune, shape and improve it.

Care and Continued Refinement

Australian Brush Cherry appreciates warmth, bright light and regular watering. Grow it outdoors during warm weather and bring it inside before cold temperatures arrive. Indoors, place it in your brightest window or under a suitable grow light. Water thoroughly when the soil begins to approach dryness, but do not leave the pot standing in water.

This species grows readily and responds well to regular trimming. Allow new shoots to extend before cutting them back to maintain the shape and continue building finer branching.

Shipping Confidence

This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery. We carefully secure the pot and protect the trunks, branches, foliage and soil before packing it for shipment.

Photography Note

Photographed September 29, 2026. Color and appearance may vary slightly with new growth, pruning, lighting and normal changes in a living tree.

Please Note

Australian Brush Cherry may shed some leaves after shipping or when moved between indoor and outdoor conditions. This is a normal response to a change in environment, and healthy trees generally begin producing new growth once settled.

All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
