A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

At the bottom of the pouch are icons for "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" and a green checkmark indicating the product is "Ready to Use." The weight is listed as Net Wt. 10 oz (280 g). The overall image conveys a high-quality, specialized maintenance product for bonsai enthusiasts.

Collected Vermont Larch Pre-Bonsai – A Rare Opportunity

Freshly collected from the bogs of Northern Vermont in spring 2026, these Larch offer an incredible opportunity to work with authentic collected bonsai material.

Typically, we prefer to hold newly collected trees at our nursery for at least one full growing cycle before offering them for sale. However, for the past three years, customers have consistently asked us to make our collected Larch available sooner, giving them the opportunity to take over their development from the beginning.

So, once again, we’re making a limited number available this fall.

Collected in Northern Vermont

These Larch were collected in spring 2026 and have spent the growing season recovering and establishing themselves at our Massachusetts nursery.

We’re pleased with how well they’ve responded. The trees are healthy, have shown encouraging growth, and are a fantastic size for future bonsai development.

Each tree has its own character, with interesting trunks, natural movement, and branching that provides plenty of opportunities for future styling.

Why We Leave the Dead Branches

You’ll notice that we’ve intentionally left the dead branches on many of these trees. That’s not an oversight!

Dead branches can be valuable features when developing collected bonsai. Many enthusiasts prefer to incorporate them into the final design as jin, the Japanese bonsai technique of preserving and shaping dead branches to create the appearance of age and weathering.

Rather than removing these branches ourselves, we prefer to leave those decisions to the future owner. You can always remove a branch later, but you can’t put it back!

Important: These Are Recently Collected Trees

While these Larch have responded very well since collection, it’s important to understand that they are still recovering from being collected earlier this year.

Normally, we’d keep them for another growing season. Offering them now means the new owner assumes some additional risk and responsibility.

Please follow these important care instructions:

  • Do not repot until spring 2027. Allow the trees to remain undisturbed in their current containers through winter.
  • Do not fertilize until spring 2027. Give the trees time to complete their recovery and enter winter dormancy naturally. Adding Thrive 180 pellets? Save them for spring 2027.
  • Keep outdoors year-round. Larch are cold-hardy deciduous conifers that require a proper winter dormancy period.
  • Protect the roots during winter. Although Larch tolerate extreme cold in nature, recently collected trees in containers benefit from protection against severe root freezing, drying winds, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Avoid major styling work. Focus on maintaining healthy, vigorous growth before beginning significant pruning, wiring, or other development work.

These trees are best suited for enthusiasts who understand the care requirements of collected material.

Northern States Only

Larch are true northern-climate trees. They need cold winters and a proper dormancy period to thrive.

Because of their climate requirements, we’re offering these trees only to customers in northern states with suitable growing conditions. They are not appropriate for warm-winter climates or indoor growing.

Like other deciduous trees, Larch naturally turn golden yellow and shed their needles in fall. This is completely normal and part of their seasonal cycle.

Limited Availability – No More Until Fall 2027

We’re releasing the remaining Larch from our spring 2026 collection. Each tree is individually photographed, allowing you to select the exact tree you’d like to develop.

This is all we have left. Once these trees sell out, we do not anticipate having another collection available for sale until fall 2027.

If you’ve been asking us for collected Vermont Larch, here’s your opportunity to select one before they’re gone.

Shipping Confidence

These trees ship from our Massachusetts nursery and will be carefully packed to protect the trunk, branches, roots, soil and nursery pot during transit. We ship these trees to northern states only.

Please Note

These are outdoor trees and must be grown outdoors. All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
