A Great Eastern White Cedar with an Old Trunk and Plenty of Potential
This is the exact tree shown in the photos.
I was able to acquire this Eastern White Cedar from a friend, grower, artist, and fellow member of our local bonsai club. It is a great-looking tree with an old, rugged trunk and a lot of established branching.
The trunk has nice movement, mature bark, and an old section of deadwood near the base. There are plenty of branches to work with, so the next owner will have options when it is time to clean up the structure and start making more definite design decisions.
The tree was moved into a 15" wooden grow box to continue its development. It is not being offered as a finished bonsai. The grow box gives it room to strengthen while the trunk, roots, and branch structure continue developing.
At 18" tall with a 26" spread, this tree already has a strong presence without being too large to work on. It is a very good piece of native material for someone who enjoys developing trees and wants to take it through the next stages.

Care Note
Eastern White Cedar is an outdoor bonsai species and should remain outside throughout the year. Give it plenty of sunlight, good airflow, and thorough watering whenever the soil begins approaching dryness. Do not allow the root system to dry out completely.
The tree requires a natural winter dormancy. Although Eastern White Cedar is cold hardy, roots growing in a container are more exposed than roots in the ground. Protect the grow box and root system from severe cold, drying winter winds, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
