Formal It Is Not
Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.
This is the exact tree and pot shown in the photographs.
This imported Tiger Bark Ficus is weird enough to be a real conversation piece. The thick trunk twists around itself, leaves an open window through the center and sends branches in directions that do not follow anyone’s rulebook.
If you want perfect symmetry and a formal triangular outline, this probably is not your tree. If you like unusual material with personality and plenty of room for creative work, this one is worth a closer look.
The bark has the light, mottled texture Tiger Bark Ficus is known for. Several roots and trunk sections have grown together over time, creating the strange structure visible in the close-up photographs. The cobalt blue glazed Yixing pot makes the pale trunk and green foliage stand out.

Where It Can Go from Here
This ficus is not pretending to be finished. Its long branches, uneven canopy and unusual trunk give the next owner several possible directions. You could continue leaning into its wild character, or gradually tighten the canopy through pruning and selective branch development.
Ficus respond well to warm temperatures, strong light and regular pruning during active growth. New shoots can be allowed to extend before being cut back to build finer branching.
Tiger Bark Ficus Care
This is a tropical tree. Keep it outdoors in warm weather, where it can receive plenty of light after being gradually acclimated to stronger sun. Bring it inside before nights turn cold and place it beneath a strong grow light or in your brightest available window.
Water thoroughly when the soil begins approaching dryness. Do not allow the root ball to dry completely, but avoid keeping it constantly saturated. Some leaf drop can occur when a ficus is shipped or moved between indoor and outdoor conditions.
Shipping
This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery. We secure the glazed pot, protect the soil surface and support the canopy as needed before packing it for travel.

Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
