A Gerald Rainville Shimpaku Juniper with Big Character and Compact Power
This is the exact tree shown in the photos.
This Gerald Rainville Shimpaku Juniper bonsai has the kind of character, age, and presence that make these trees so exciting to work with. The trunk has rugged texture, visible age, natural movement, and strong deadwood potential, while the dense foliage gives the next owner plenty of material for future refinement.
This tree comes from the same group of Gerald Rainville-grown junipers that bonsai enthusiasts may have seen at the Mid Atlantic Bonsai show, where trees from this batch were worked on by Peter Warren from the UK, Kaya Mooney from Japan, and Jonas Dupuich from the USA. More recently, Julian Tsai selected one of these trees to work on during NEBG’s Spring Celebration.
This particular tree has a compact, powerful feel. The foliage mass is full and rounded, the trunk has great visual weight, and the overall size makes it very usable for future styling. It already has the bones of a serious bonsai: age, taper, branching, foliage density, and design flexibility.
It is currently planted in an eleven-inch mica bonsai training pot, giving the tree a practical container while the next owner decides the next step. This is strong material for someone who wants to style, refine, and continue building a mature Shimpaku Juniper with real provenance.

Shipping Note
This tree ships from our nursery. It will be packed carefully, but some minor movement of foliage, moss, or soil may occur during transit.
California Shipping Restriction: Due to USDA restrictions, we are unable to ship Junipers, including Shimpaku Junipers, to California.
Care Note
Shimpaku Juniper is an outdoor bonsai and should be grown outside year-round. It prefers bright light, good airflow, and proper watering. Allow the soil to approach dryness between watering, but do not let the tree dry out completely. Protect from extreme heat, drying winds, and severe winter conditions, especially while in a container.
