Imported Japanese White Pine Bonsai Styled by Peter Olson
Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.
This one is all about age, movement and bark. The powerful base rises into a tall, curving trunk covered in rugged, mature character. Its blue-green needles provide a beautiful contrast against the old bark and warm brown pot.
This imported Japanese White Pine was styled by Peter Olson. The primary structure is established, and the wired branches have been positioned to create distinct foliage pads while preserving the tree’s natural movement. There is still plenty of room for the next owner to refine the silhouette and build greater density over time.
This is the exact tree and pot shown in the photographs. Note, a ddiferent angle of the tree is shown. if we repotted the tree next spring, we would suggest changing the angle of the tree in the pot.

Continued Development
The tree has a strong framework with well-placed branches, compact blue-green foliage and an established apex. Continued development can focus on increasing ramification, defining the foliage pads and balancing strength throughout the canopy.
Styling wire remains on the tree and should be inspected regularly. Remove or adjust it before it begins cutting into the bark. Japanese White Pines respond best to patient, seasonally appropriate work rather than repeated heavy pruning.
Outdoor Care
Japanese White Pine is an outdoor bonsai and should remain outside throughout the year. Give it plenty of sunlight and good air circulation. Water thoroughly when the soil approaches dryness, but do not keep the root system constantly wet.
Like other temperate pines, this tree requires a natural winter dormancy. Appropriate winter protection will depend on your climate and local conditions.
Shipping
This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery. The tree and pot will be secured carefully, the soil surface protected and the wired branches and needle pads packed to reduce movement during transit.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
