Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai with Old Deadwood
Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.
This is the exact tree shown in the photographs.
This is one of those trees that gets better the closer you look. Peter Olson styled this Itoigawa and brought out its best feature, which is the old trunk.
The live vein twists through a large area of natural-looking deadwood, with hollows, old branch stubs and small jins throughout the tree. There is a lot of character packed into a fairly compact size. Peter arranged the branches around the trunk so the best sections remain visible from the front.
The foliage is healthy and there is plenty of growth to work with as the pads continue to develop. It measures 15 inches from the table to the apex, with a 13-inch spread, and is planted in a wide 12-inch Yixing ceramic pot.

Care and Continued Refinement
Itoigawa junipers should be grown outdoors with plenty of sunlight and good airflow. Water thoroughly when the soil begins to approach dryness, but do not allow the root ball to dry out completely. The tree is currently wired, so check the wire regularly and remove it before it begins to mark the branches.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
