Dense Itoigawa Foliage with a Strong Trunk and Future Design Potential
This is the exact tree shown in the photos.
This Itoigawa Shimpaku pre-bonsai has a dense, full canopy with strong green foliage and plenty of material to work with. The tree has a lower, wider profile, a solid trunk, and branching that gives the next owner multiple styling options.
This tree was part of the group selected for our recent Julian Tsai workshop. That background is helpful because these were chosen as quality workshop trees, but this should still be viewed as pre-bonsai material, not a finished bonsai. The value is in the raw potential — healthy Itoigawa foliage, usable branching, trunk character, and the ability to take this tree in several design directions.
Although it is already planted in a ceramic pot, there is still time this season to either style the tree or move it into a nicer ceramic bonsai pot. We would not recommend doing both at the same time. Choose one major step, let the tree recover, and continue developing it from there.
Only a small handful of these Itoigawa Shimpaku remain from this batch, and this is one of them.

Development Note
This tree is best viewed as pre-bonsai material with strong potential, not a finished bonsai. It can be styled or moved into a nicer bonsai pot this season, but we recommend choosing one major operation at a time rather than styling and repotting together.
Photography Note
This tree was photographed on May 2, 2026. The photos show the actual tree for sale at the time of photography.
Shipping Note
This tree ships from our nursery. It will be packed carefully, but some minor movement of foliage, moss, or soil may occur during transit.
California Shipping Restriction: Due to USDA restrictions, we are unable to ship Junipers, including Itoigawa Shimpaku, to California.
Care Note
Itoigawa Shimpaku is an outdoor conifer bonsai. It should be grown outside in bright light with good airflow. Protect from extreme heat, drying winds, and severe freezes. Allow the soil to approach dryness between watering, but do not let the tree dry out completely.
Please Note
- All trees are sold as-is
- All sales are final – no refunds, returns, or exchanges
- Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility
- Have questions? Just reach out—we’re always happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
