A professional-looking, resealable stand-up pouch of Bonsai Thrive 180, a time-release fertilizer specifically formulated for the specialized needs of bonsai trees.

The packaging design is split vertically. The left side has a clean, textured white background featuring the product name "BONSAI THRIVE 180" in bold, black lettering beneath an orange circular logo of a stylized crane. Below the product name, several key horticultural benefits are listed: "Long-Lasting Nutrient Supply," "Low Risk of Over-Fertilization," "NPK 19-5-9 in Every Granule," and "Improved Root Development."

The right side of the bag is a deep forest green adorned with delicate, light-green line-art illustrations of leaves and branches. A large, clear, crescent-shaped window on this side reveals the actual fertilizer inside: small, uniform, spherical granules in shades of deep indigo and light blue.

At the bottom of the pouch are icons for "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" and a green checkmark indicating the product is "Ready to Use." The weight is listed as Net Wt. 10 oz (280 g). The overall image conveys a high-quality, specialized maintenance product for bonsai enthusiasts.

A Big, Healthy Japanese White Pine Ready for Its First Serious Styling

Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.

This is the exact tree shown in the photographs.

We imported this Japanese White Pine from Japan in 2025. There is nothing wrong with this tree. It is healthy, full of branches, and simply waiting for someone to give it a thoughtful first styling.

This is a big and impressive piece of imported material. The heavy lower trunk has mature, deeply textured bark and strong movement before dividing into a broad framework of established branches. Healthy blue-green needles are distributed throughout the tree, with plenty of interior shoots and branch choices available for building the future design.

At approximately 22" tall and 22" across, it already has the presence of a substantial bonsai. The existing branch structure gives the next owner options. You can study the tree, choose the best front, remove what is not needed, and begin positioning the remaining branches into a more defined silhouette.

This is not a finished or show-ready bonsai, but it is not a recovery project either. It is strong imported material with the trunk, branches, and foliage needed to create something serious. If you enjoy styling your own trees, this one gives you a great deal to work with.

A small amount of yellowing among older needles is normal seasonal needle shedding and can be seen on many healthy pines as they replace older foliage.

Styling Potential

The next step is to choose a front and establish the primary structure. This tree has numerous branches at different heights, giving you choices when selecting the future first branch, back branches, crown, and overall direction.

Some branches will likely be removed while others can be wired into place. Work gradually, preserve the tree’s strength, and allow its mature trunk to guide the design.

Care

Japanese White Pine is an outdoor bonsai and should remain outside throughout the year. Give it plenty of sunlight and good airflow. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to begin approaching dryness before watering again. Avoid keeping the root system constantly wet or allowing it to dry out completely.

Japanese White Pine requires a natural winter dormancy. Protect the grow pot and root system from severe cold, drying winter winds, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.

Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.

Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
