Mature Juniper Procumbens Nana Pre-Bonsai – Unstyled 1986 Tree with Sweeping Movement
Due to USDA restrictions, junipers cannot be shipped to California.
This is the exact Juniper Procumbens Nana pre-bonsai you will receive. Started in 1986 by Gerald Rainville, this is a rare mature juniper with a sweeping trunk line, dense healthy foliage, and excellent future styling potential.
This tree has not been styled yet. It is healthy, vigorous, and currently a little top-heavy, which is why a rock is shown in the photos as a temporary support. The rock is not included with the tree. The underlying material is strong: an aged trunk, established foliage mass, and movement that can be developed into a dramatic bonsai with thoughtful work.
These mature Juniper Procumbens Nana are the same line of material that has drawn attention from major bonsai artists at events including the Mid Atlantic Bonsai Show and Bonsai Outlet / New England Bonsai Spring Celebration. Artists including Peter Warren, Kaya Mooney, Jonas Dupuich, and Julien Tsai, have shown how dramatically this material can be transformed into specimen-quality bonsai.
Gerald Rainville started this tree in 1986 and is no longer growing this material. Bonsai Outlet is the only source in the United States currently offering this group of mature Rainville-grown Juniper Procumbens Nana pre-bonsai.

About This Tree
This Juniper Procumbens Nana is a strong candidate for someone who wants mature, unstyled material with real age and room for creative direction. The tree is healthy and full, with a dense canopy that can be thinned, wired, and shaped into a much more refined bonsai over time.
The trunk has natural movement and aged bark, while the current foliage mass gives the next owner plenty of material to work with. Because the tree has not been styled yet, it offers a more open starting point than a tree that has already been pushed into a final design.
Care Notes
Junipers are outdoor bonsai trees and should not be grown indoors. Grow this tree outside with strong light, good airflow, and appropriate seasonal care. For more detailed care guidance, please refer to our educational bonsai resources or contact us before purchase.
Shipping Confidence
This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery. We carefully pack each tree to help protect the trunk, branches, foliage, pot, and soil during transit.
Some minor soil movement or light shifting can happen during shipping, especially with larger living trees, but every tree is packed with care by people who understand bonsai.
Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final – no refunds, returns, or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out—we’re happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
