Mature Kishu Shimpaku Juniper Pre-Bonsai – 23" Spread, 2.75" Trunk, Started from Cutting in 1986
This is the exact Kishu Shimpaku Juniper pre-bonsai you will receive. Started from a cutting in 1986 by Gerald Rainville, this rare tree offers a powerful combination of age, trunk character, compact foliage, and broad presence.
This tree has an impressive 23" spread with a mature approximately 2.75" trunk, established movement, aged bark, and visible deadwood character. The foliage is full and dense, with compact Kishu growth and small juniper berries visible throughout the canopy.
Kishu Shimpaku is highly valued for bonsai because of its tight foliage, strong refinement potential, and ability to develop clean, compact pads over time. This tree is listed as pre-bonsai, but the age, trunk quality, and decades of development are already clearly present.
Due to USDA restrictions, junipers cannot be shipped to California.

About This Tree
This Kishu Shimpaku has the scale and age that make mature juniper material so exciting. The trunk rises with natural movement, aged surface texture, and deadwood character, while the broad canopy gives the tree a strong visual presence even before future refinement.
Since acquiring this group of trees, Bonsai Outlet has focused on keeping them healthy and strong. This tree offers an excellent opportunity to continue developing rare, long-grown Kishu Shimpaku material with an already established foundation.
Shipping Confidence
This tree ships from our Massachusetts nursery. Bonsai Outlet carefully packs each tree to help protect the trunk, branches, foliage, pot, and soil during transit. Some minor soil movement or light shifting can happen during shipping, but each tree is packed with care by people who understand bonsai.
Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final – no refunds, returns, or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out—we’re happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
