Rugged Trunk Japanese White Pine Bonsai Styled by Peter Olson
Due to California agricultural restrictions, this tree cannot be shipped to California. These restrictions are imposed by the State of California and apply to many growers shipping plants from regulated areas.
This is one of those trees that gets better the closer you look. The heavy lower trunk has deeply plated bark, a broad base and plenty of age. Several small jins add even more character without taking attention away from the trunk.
Peter Olson styled the branches into a compact upright composition with a full upper canopy and lower branches extending in both directions. The blue-green needles are healthy and dense, and the structure underneath gives the next owner plenty to continue working with.
This is the exact tree and pot shown in the photographs.

Where This Tree Goes Next
The major branches are positioned and the tree already has a convincing silhouette. Future work can concentrate on refining the individual foliage pads, improving ramification and maintaining balance between the strong upper growth and the lower branches.
Styling wire remains on the tree. Check it frequently and remove or adjust it before it begins marking the bark. With a trunk like this, careful long-term development is more important than rushing the next round of work.
Outdoor Care
Japanese White Pine is an outdoor bonsai and should remain outside throughout the year. Place it where it will receive plenty of sunlight and good air circulation. Water thoroughly when the soil approaches dryness, allowing excess water to drain freely.
This is a temperate tree that requires winter dormancy. The amount of winter protection needed will depend on your local climate and growing conditions.

Please Note
All trees are sold as-is. All sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges. Once the tree leaves our nursery, its care is your responsibility. Have questions? Just reach out. We’re happy to help.
We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
