7-Piece Black Aluminum Bonsai Wire Kit
This is the wire kit to buy when you want options.
The 7-piece black aluminum bonsai wire kit gives you seven commonly used gauges, from fine detail wire to heavier branch-training wire. Instead of guessing which single size you need, you get a full range of 100g rolls ready for different branches, different species, and different stages of bonsai work.
This is a great kit for bonsai owners who are past the “one tree on a windowsill” stage and starting to work on multiple trees. It is also a strong choice for workshops, clubs, students, and anyone who wants to keep wire on hand instead of ordering a new size every time a branch needs work.
The wire is black, which gives it a clean, traditional look on the tree. Black and brown are both common bonsai wire colors, and which one you choose is mostly personal preference. What matters more is using quality bonsai wire that bends properly, holds well, and is meant for tree training.
We do not recommend random green, orange, red, or decorative craft wire for bonsai. Bonsai wire sits directly on living branches while the tree grows. You want the right material, the right strength, and a wire that behaves predictably when you bend it.

How to Choose the Right Gauge
Use thinner wire for young shoots and delicate branches. Use heavier wire when the branch needs more holding power. If the branch springs back after wiring, the wire is probably too thin. If the wire is difficult to apply cleanly or feels like it may damage the branch, it may be too heavy for that use.
Many bonsai owners use several wire sizes on the same tree. Smaller branches may need 1.0mm or 1.5mm wire, while stronger branches may need 2.5mm, 3.0mm, or larger.
How to Use Bonsai Wire
- Choose the gauge that matches the branch size and flexibility.
- Cut enough wire to wrap the branch cleanly.
- Anchor the wire before shaping the branch.
- Wrap at roughly a 45-degree angle with even spacing.
- Bend slowly, supporting the branch as you work.
- Check the wire regularly and remove it before it scars the bark.
Wiring is one of the most useful bonsai techniques, but it takes practice. Start with branches you can safely work on and check your trees often while the wire is in place.
Which Wire Option Should You Choose?
- Choose the 7-piece kit if you want the most flexibility and a full range of gauges.
- Choose the 3-piece kit if you want a simple beginner set with three popular sizes.
- Choose individual brown rolls if you know the exact gauge you need or want larger rolls for frequent wiring.
