One-of-a-Kind 30+ Year Japanese Black Pine – Aged Trunk, Serious Potential
Some Japanese Black Pines feel like “nice material.” This one feels like a future centerpiece.
We’ve had this tree at our nursery for several years, and it’s the kind of pine that rewards patience and confident decisions. It was originally acquired on the West Coast from an 82-year-old Japanese gentleman, and it carries that old-tree character you simply can’t rush - an aged trunk, a grounded stance, and a canopy that’s ready to be refined.
From a styling standpoint, this pine hasn’t been pushed hard. That’s the appeal. If you’re the type who enjoys the work ahead - cleaning lines, setting structure, building pads, and slowly dialing in the silhouette - this is a rare chance to start with mature presence instead of a young tree that needs decades to “feel right.”
Repot Note: This tree will need a repot this year or next, depending on your timing and approach.

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
