One-Of-A-Kind Shimpaku Juniper “Kishu”
Juniper Shimpaku “Kishu” is one of the most loved varieties in bonsai for a reason: tight, rich green foliage, strong back-budding potential, and the kind of durability that lets you style, refine, and re-style over time.
This tree was originally acquired from Gerald Rainville as part of a small batch of Kishu Shimpaku (he had only 6–8 available at the time). We purchased them all, so when this group is gone, it’s gone.
The tree underwent styling in December 2024. It’s not “show finished” yet, but that’s the opportunity: you can already see the incredible branching and the direction it wants to go. With patient refinement, selective thinning, wiring, and pad development, this is the kind of Shimpaku that can mature into a true standout.
Kishu is prized for its foliage and overall feel. Shimpaku in general is a cornerstone species in Japanese bonsai culture, valued for its ability to evoke age, balance, and calm.
IMPORTANT: We Can NOT ship Junipers to California. It's a USDA State Regulation

We ship thousands of bonsai trees and supplies each year, and every order is packed with care by our team. Live trees are watered, secured, and packaged to help them arrive safely and ready for their new home.
Live bonsai trees generally ship early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, to reduce time in transit. Tools, pots, soil, fertilizer, and other non-living items usually ship throughout the week.
Bonsai Outlet is a licensed nursery, not just a warehouse. We follow the proper inspection and certification requirements for shipping live plants across state lines. When a state requires additional documentation, such as a nematode certificate or nursery inspection certificate, we work to ensure the proper requirements are met before shipping.
